England prop Alex Corbisiero has been called up by the British & Irish Lions as a potential reaplcement for injured prop Cian Healy. Healy’s day got even worse when he was also cited for biting Force scrum half Brett Sheehan
Cian Healy hasn’t actually been ruled out of the tour yet, but Corbisiero has been called in to the squad as cover. Gatland said “He went for an X-ray and the medics say it wasn’t broken. We just assume it is ligament damage. He may need a scan to further delve into the potential of the injury.”
Healy was injured in the 17-69 win over the Western Force in Perth after falling badly on his leg. He was carried off the field just before half time.
In what has turned out to be a very eventful day for Healy, he was also cited for an earlier incident involving Western Force scrum half Brett Sheehan. Sheehan reported that Healy had bitten him at half time, but stressed that he wasn’t sure if it was intentional or not.
The incident was was referred to the TMO during the match, but the TV replays were inconclusive. Sheehan told Fox Sport in Australia at half time “I don’t know if it was an accident or on purpose” The IRB appear to have believed the claim though as Healy has been cited.
The Lions continue their tour against the Queensland Reds in Brisbane on Saturday.
