Lions prop Gethin Jenkins has been ruled out of the British & Irish Lions tour to Australia after failing to recover from a calf injury.
Jenkins had been suffering with the injury ahead of the start of the tour but had been expected to recover. He was named as a starter for today’s match against the Queensland Reds, but was ruled out of the match on Friday after failing a fitness test.
James Robson the Lions Team Doctor said “The expected time for recovery is at least three weeks and given the remaining duration of the tour we felt that Gethin should return home and continue his rehabilitation there.”
Jenkins’ injury makes him the second prop in just a few days to depart from the tour following Cian Healy’s ankle ligament damage on Wednesday caused him to be ruled out of the tour.
England and Scotland props Alex Corbisiero and Ryan Grant have been called up from their respective international camps, with Corbisiero already arriving in Australia via five flights, and Grant currently on his way from South Africa.
The Lions take on the Queensland Reds at 19.30 local time (10.30 UK).
