Ireland winger Simon Zebo has been called up to the British & Irish Lions squad as cover for the injured Tommy Bowe.
Bowe suffered a broken bones in his hand in the 12-22 win over the Queensland Reds on Saturday and underwent surgery on the bone that evening.
He has not yet been officially ruled out of the tour, and the surgeon has indicated that Bowe could be back in action in a couple of weeks, but that would almost certainly rule him out of the first test on the 22nd June and perhaps the remaining two test matches if he fails to recover in time.
Lions Head Coach Warren Gatland said ahead of the procedure “We will just have to wait and see how the surgery goes. The surgeon says if it goes right, it could be just a couple of weeks.”
Winger Simon Zebo was called up straight from Ireland’s tour of the USA where he had just played in a narrow 12-15 win against the US on Saturday. He will now make the trip down to Australia straight from America.
