The Lions started the match like a rocket, asserting their authority from the first minute with an almighty scrum that pushed the Australians backwards and provided go forward ball for the forwards to drive through the middle. Alex Corbisiero took the ball from Mike Phillips and drove over for the first score of the match inside the first two minutes.

Two further penalties after the break brought the Wallabies to within three points of the Lions, but the Lions put the foot down on the accelerator and scored three further tries without response from the hosts.

the key turning point was the try from Sexton after a fine move from the Lions with Halfpenny setting sexton free to score. The try was referred to the TMO under suspicion of a forward pass, but it was ruled to be ok and the momentum shifted the way of the Lions.
