With all the events of the last few days dominating everyone’s thoughts, trudging up to Eden Park last night for an effectively meaningless test match just failed to stir the passions as much as the previous weeks matches.

Depending on who you speak to this was either a fantastic spectacle of rugby or it was an absolute shambles. For my part I fall into the former category, I thoroughly enjoyed my evening at Eden Park and I was entertained from the word go.

Well the tour is very much on track. With the exception of the Maori match, the Lions performances have been improving game by game and some individuals are finally beginning to stand up and be counted.

It’s difficult not to label this Lions side as the midweek team but it is clear that this side is being used to try out those players who are less likely to make the grade into the test team in seventeen days time.
