How to get see British & Irish Lions play in South Africa 2009

We are asked on a daily basis how to get tickets and, in our experience having tried many different avenues for previous tours, we can safely say that our recommendation below is the best bet.

One of the most common questions we are asked is, How can I get tickets to the matches without buying the whole package? Basically the short answer to that is you can't. As you would expect, tickets for the Lions tests are in extremely short supply and the options open to you are extremely limited.

The only way to guarantee your ticket to the test matches is by purchasing a travel package from one of the official licensed operators appointed by British Lions Limited. Our partner tour operator for this event is Gullivers Sports Travel www.gulliverstravel.co.uk. Having personally travelled with Gullivers as a client in 2001 and 2005, I am confident to recommend their tours to you. Be warned they are not necessarily the cheapest, but they will offer a full range of options and prices.

There are other ways of getting hold of tickets for the tests for example, having family and friends resident in South Africa who may be able to get tickets through their local club system or SARFU ticket sales programs.

Alternatively, you could of course try going out to South Africa and buying tickets from the touts (scalpers) outside the stadium, but in all honesty, you would spend less money paying for a full package tour from one of the operators with all their bells and whsitles than you would do buying a pair of tickets to all the tests. I personally saw a guy hand over more than £700 for just one match ticket to a tout outside Stadium Australia in 2001 and I heard all sorts of horror stories about people being charged well over four figures per ticket on that tour, let alone on the subsequent tour to New Zealand in 2005 when there were less tickets available and a higher demand for them, so it really isn't worth it!

...and even then you cannot guarantee your admission to the ground as any tickets bought from touts will be cancelled so you could end up hundreds and hundreds of pounds lighter and without even getting in to the ground so it really isn't worth the risk!

Saving your money up and doing the tour properly remains the best and most hassle free way of securing your tickets to the game and spending your valuable time in the Rainbow Nation enjoying the tour.

For total peace of mind, our best advice to you is to contact Gullivers and see what they can offer you.
